Jefferson County CO – District R-1 Recall

It is clear to me that there is desperation in the language used to oust the duly elected slate of conservative board members in Jefferson County. I Vote to retain them and furthermore wrote in as replacements should it succeed: Choice And Competition.

Additionally, I voted to put in alternates to the existing minority. Johnson and Merritts get my vote.

I agree with the bottom 2% of the worst teachers to not get raises. Sorry, some measure of their worth is the best we have. Our children are too important to keep dead weight around.

I have been puzzling over these for a a little while and have created some sawdust over this problem. The solution eludes me.

I need a foolproof easy way to be able to do repeatable 30 degree  bevel cuts on a board so that the resulting shape on edge is a rhombus, all sides are the same length.

Using a board planed down to 1.25" x 5.5" x 3' for instance. I imagine having the fence on the left to facilitate safe and easy bevel cuts. My issue comes from after the first cut how to adjust the fence over the width of the board plus the kerf to arrive at the next position.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

So I am thoroughly impressed with the new Photos app to index and search existing photos by what the algorithms recognize, geolocation and people…

I experimented a little bit searching for old photos that I knew existed but have had a hard time finding just like they described at IO today, the endless scrolling through past photos, and I found a few things that it could not find.

Never fear, find the old photos once, change their information/description using the desktop/browser version of photos and then a little while later they will be included in search results.

I don't know if it learned it by how I placed some similar photos into a named album or just indexed the info I added.

#Enhancement  What this brings to mind is that the Photos app should ask every now and again to tag/add info/describe photos in your repository that it has issues assigning.

[Begin rant]

It is that time of year where I find out that the county assessor has been smoking crack!

Can you say bubble?

21.7% increase in the value of my home … Will cost me most likely an additionaly $330/yr in property taxes. Funny how that is about what an appraisal costs …

What a wonderful stimulus!

This is how I feel about Cruz

This is how I feel about Cruz

Reshared post from +Heather Bowen

Cruz was the first candidate to announce his candidacy, and he’s proven to the entire Washington establishment that he’s an absolutely credible candidate for the White House—and can win—no matter what the media says.

Doggcatcher Podcast player

It is amazing how good this podcast player is! Very active development. Great features. Just when I got used to being able to play episodes at 1.5x I started wishing for the ability to go faster! And lo and behold you can set custom speeds! Trying out 1.6x as I type this.

I wish I could also customize the notification drawer button that shows when it is in the shrunken mode. It would be very nice to be able ff and not do a next track. See images. In the maximized version I have the ability to ff, but not in the minimized version.

Ben Shapiro

Ben Shapiro on Congress’s structural problems during a C-Span interview Aug 1, 2014 at ~44 min mark:
“Unfortunately we have come to the idea that compromising and legislation is the job of congress. The job of congress is to protect your rights. That’s the job of congress. And if they are compromising your rights: that is not a compromise you want to be part of. And if they are creating legislation that violates those rights that’s not something you want to be part of either. What we want is a congress that is answerable to us and we want an executive body that is answerable to us. What we are watching is a gradual slide into an executive dictatorship because we have a group of people in America who don’t watch closely and yell for compromise and then yell for something to be done whenever there is a problem, whenever there is a crisis something must be done and if congress won’t do it then the president of the United States should. Well, as it turns out, in the constitution of the United States, the job of the president is pretty specifically defined, and nowhere in there does it say “do good stuff.” That is not the job of the President. The job of the president is to adhere to his constitutional boundaries and when we’ve lost that, we have lost the system.”

I could not agree more! The only thing that is missing is the rationale behind why you would not want  congress to do stuff. It boils down to the same reason you don’t go off and marry somebody solely based upon how you feel. One should carefully weigh all options look at the ramifications, be introspective and take a hard look at the relationship: is it co-dependent, is it abusive, is it one-sided. Wait, we are talking about government, overreaching government, controlling government, wasteful government, there is nothing well ordered about government, it is the epitome of bad relationships.  When it comes to what our government should do and not do is simply do what is available within the rules of the system, it is not a relationship.
